RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Recent studies have revealed that circRNA can serve as ceRNA to participate in multiple autoimmune diseases. Our study aims to explore the key circRNA as ceRNA and biomarker for MG. METHODS: We used circRNA microarray to explore differentially expressed circRNAs (DECs) from MG and compare with control. Then, we predicted the target miRNA associated with DECs and screened miRNAs by the algorithm of random walk with restart (RWR). Next, we constructed the circRNA-miRNA-mRNA ceRNA regulated network (CMMC) to identify the hub objects. Following, we detected the expression of hub-circRNAs by RT-PCR. We verify has_circ_0004183 (circFRMD4) sponging miR-145-5p regulate cells proliferation using luciferase assay and CCK-8. RESULTS: We found that the expression level of circFRMD4 and has_circ_0035381 (circPIGB) were upregulated and has_circ_0089153(circ NUP214) had the lowest expression level in MG. Finally, we proved circFRMD4 sponging miR-145-5p regulate Jurkat cells proliferation. CircFRMD4 take part in the genesis and development of MG via circFRMD4/miR145-5p axis. CONCLUSIONS: We found that circFRMD4, circPIGB and circNUP214 can be considered as valuable potential novel biomarkers for AchR + MG. CircFRMD4 participate in the development of AchR + MG via targeting binding with miR-145-5p.

RESUMO

Creating structural defects in a controlled manner within metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) poses a significant challenge for synthesis, and concurrently, identifying the types and distributions of these defects is also a formidable task for characterization. In this study, we demonstrate that by employing 2-sulfonylterephthalic acid as the ligand for synthesizing Zr (or Hf)-based MOFs, a crystal phase transformation from the common fcu topology to the rare jmt topology can be easily facilitated using a straightforward mixed-solvent strategy. The jmt phase, characterized by an extensively open framework, can be considered a derivative of the fcu phase, generated through the introduction of missing-cluster defects. We have explicitly identified both MOF phases, their intermediate states, and the novel core-shell structures they form using ultralow-dose high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. In addition to facilitating phase engineering, the incorporation of sulfonic groups in MOFs imparts ionic selectivity, making them applicable for osmotic energy harvesting through mixed matrix membrane fabrication. The membrane containing the jmt-phase MOF exhibits an exceptionally high peak power density of 10.08 W m-2 under a 50-fold salinity gradient (NaCl: 0.5 M|0.01 M), which surpasses the threshold of 5 W m-2 for commercial applications and can be attributed to the combination of large pore size, extensive porosity, and abundant sulfonic groups in this novel MOF material.

RESUMO

As one of the key components of supercapacitors, electrolyte is intensively investigated to promote the fast development of the energy supply system under extremely cold conditions. However, high freezing point and sluggish ion transport kinetics for routine electrolytes hinder the application of supercapacitors at low temperatures. Resultantly, the liquid electrolyte should be oriented to reduce the freezing point, accompanied by other superior characteristics, such as large ionic conductivity, low viscosity and outstanding chemical stability. In this review, the intrinsically physical parameters and microscopic structure of low-temperature electrolytes are discussed thoroughly, then the previously reported strategies that are used to address the associated issues are summarized subsequently from the aspects of aqueous and non-aqueous electrolytes (organic electrolyte and ionic liquid electrolyte). In addition, some advanced spectroscopy techniques and theoretical simulation to better decouple the solvation structure of electrolytes and reveal the link between the key physical parameters and microscopic structure are briefly presented. Finally, the further improvement direction is put forward to provide a reference and guidance for the follow-up research.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The hospitalization rate of ambulatory care sensitive conditions (ACSCs) has been recognized as an essential indicator reflective of the overall performance of healthcare system. At present, ACSCs has been widely used in practice and research to evaluate health service quality and efficiency worldwide. The definition of ACSCs varies across countries due to different challenges posed on healthcare systems. However, China does not have its own list of ACSCs. The study aims to develop a list to meet health system monitoring, reporting and evaluation needs in China. METHODS: To develop the list, we will combine the best methodological evidence available with real-world evidence, adopt a systematic and rigorous process and absorb multidisciplinary expertise. Specific steps include: (1) establishment of working groups; (2) generations of the initial list (review of already published lists, semi-structured interviews, calculations of hospitalization rate); (3) optimization of the list (evidence evaluation, Delphi consensus survey); and (4) approval of a final version of China's ACSCs list. Within each step of the process, we will calculate frequencies and proportions, use descriptive analysis to summarize and draw conclusions, discuss the results, draft a report, and refine the list. DISCUSSION: Once completed, China's list of ACSCs can be used to comprehensively evaluate the current situation and performance of health services, identify flaws and deficiencies embedded in the healthcare system to provide evidence-based implications to inform decision-makings towards the optimization of China's healthcare system. The experiences might be broadly applicable and serve the purpose of being a prime example for nations with similar conditions.

RESUMO

Inertial Measurement Unit-based methods have great potential in capturing motion in large-scale and complex environments with many people. Sparse Inertial Measurement Unit-based methods have more research value due to their simplicity and flexibility. However, improving the computational efficiency and reducing latency in such methods are challenging. In this paper, we propose Fast Inertial Poser, which is a full body motion estimation deep neural network based on 6 inertial measurement units considering body parameters. We design a network architecture based on recurrent neural networks according to the kinematics tree. This method introduces human body shape information by the causality of observations and eliminates the dependence on future frames. During the estimation of joint positions, the upper body and lower body are estimated using separate network modules independently. Then the joint rotation is obtained through a well-designed single-frame kinematics inverse solver. Experiments show that the method can greatly improve the inference speed and reduce the latency while ensuring the reconstruction accuracy compared with previous methods. Fast Inertial Poser runs at 65 fps with 15 ms latency on an embedded computer, demonstrating the efficiency of the model.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Regular Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) for lung cancer high-risk population has been proved to improve health outcomes and relieve disease burden efficiently for both individual and society. With geographical impedance becoming the major barrier preventing patients from getting timely healthcare service, this study incorporated health seeking behavior in estimating spatial accessibility of relative scarce LDCT resource in China, thus to provide real-world evidence for future government investment and policy making. METHODS: Taking Sichuan Province in southwest China as the study area, a cross-sectional survey was first carried out to collect actual practice and preferences for seeking LDCT services. Using Computed Tomography (CT) registration data reported by owner institutions representing LDCT services capacity, and grided town-level high-risk population as demand, the Nearest Neighbor Method was then utilized to calculate spatial accessibility of LDCT services. RESULTS: A total of 2,529 valid questionnaires were collected, with only 34.72% of the high-risk populations (746 individuals) followed the recommended annual screening. Participants preferred to travel to municipal-level and above institutions within 60 min for LDCT services. Currently, every thousand high-risk populations own 0.0845 CT scanners in Sichuan Province, with 96.95% able to access LDCT within 60 min and over half within 15 min. Urban areas generally showed better accessibility than rural areas, and the more developed eastern regions were better than the western regions with ethnic minority clusters. CONCLUSIONS: Spatial access to LDCT services is generally convenient in Sichuan Province, but disparity exists between different regions and population groups. Improving LDCT capacity in county-level hospitals as well as promoting health education and policy guidance to the public can optimize efficiency of existing CT resources. Implementing mobile CT services and improving rural public transportation may alleviate emerging disparities in accessing early lung cancer detection.

RESUMO

Carbon materials with hierarchical porous structures hold great potential for redox electrolyte-enhanced supercapacitors. However, restricted by the intrinsic inert and nonpolar characteristics of carbon, the energy barrier of anchoring redox electrolytes on the pore walls is relatively high. As such, the redox process at the interface less occurs, and the rate of mass transfer is impaired, further leading to a poor electrochemical performance. Here, a ferricyanide anion-philic interface made of in situ inserted boron species into carbon rings is constructed for enhanced charge storage in supercapacitors. Profiting from the unique component-driven effects, the polar anchoring sites on the pore wall can be built to grasp the charged redox ferricyanide anion from the bulk electrolyte and promote the redox process; the dynamics process is fastened correspondingly. Especially, the boron atoms in BC2O and BCO2 units with higher positive natural bond orbital values in the carbon skeleton are pinpointed as intrinsic active sites to bind the negatively charged nitrogen atoms in the ferricyanide anion via electrostatic interaction, confirmed by density functional theoretical calculations. This will suppress the shuttle and diffusion effects of the ferricyanide anion from the surface of the electrode to the bulk electrolyte. Finally, the well-designed PC-3 with high content of BC2O and BCO2 units can reach 1099 F g-1 at 2 mV s-1, which is a more than 2-fold increase over boron-free units of carbon (428 F g-1). The work offers a novel version for designing high-performance carbon materials with unique yet reaction species-philic effects.

RESUMO

Marine fungi, such as species from the Penicillium and Aspergillus genera, are prolific producers of a diversity of natural products with cytotoxic properties. These fungi have been successfully isolated and identified from various marine sources, including sponges, coral, algae, mangroves, sediment, and seawater. The cytotoxic compounds derived from marine fungi can be categorized into five distinct classes: polyketides, peptides, terpenoids and sterols, hybrids, and other miscellaneous compounds. Notably, the pre-eminent group among these compounds comprises polyketides, accounting for 307 out of 642 identified compounds. Particularly, within this collection, 23 out of the 642 compounds exhibit remarkable cytotoxic potency, with IC50 values measured at the nanomolar (nM) or nanogram per milliliter (ng/mL) levels. This review elucidates the originating fungal strains, the sources of isolation, chemical structures, and the noteworthy antitumor activity of the 642 novel natural products isolated from marine fungi. The scope of this review encompasses the period from 1991 to 2023.

RESUMO

Hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of lignin derivatives at room-temperature (RT) is still of challenge due to the lack of satisfactory activity reported in previous literature. Here, it is successfully designed a Pd/UiO-66-(COOH)2 catalyst by using UiO-66-(COOH)2 as the support with uncoordinated carboxyl groups. This catalyst, featuring a moderate Pd loading, exhibited exceptional activity in RT HDO of vanillin (VAN, a typical model lignin derivative) to 2-methoxyl-4-methylpheonol (MMP), and >99% VAN conversion with >99% MMP yield is achieved, which is the first metal-organic framework (MOF)-based catalyst realizing the goal of RT HDO of lignin derivatives, surpassing previous reports in the literature. Detailed investigations reveal a linear relationship between the amount of uncoordinated carboxyl group and MMP yield. These uncoordinated carboxyl groups accelerate the conversion of intermediate such as vanillyl alcohol (VAL), ultimately leading to a higher yield of MMP over Pd/UiO-66-(COOH)2 catalyst. Furthermore, Pd/UiO-66-(COOH)2 catalyst also exhibits exceptional reusability and excellent substrate generality, highlighting its promising potential for further biomass utilization.

RESUMO

Background: Psychological first aid (PFA) training helps to prepare healthcare workers (HCWs) to manage trauma and stress during healthcare emergencies, yet evidence regarding its effectiveness and implementation is lacking.Method: A two-arm feasibility randomized controlled trial design was conducted in a Chinese tertiary hospital. Participants were randomly allocated to receive either a culturally adapted PFA training (the intervention arm) or psychoeducation (the control arm). Feasibility indicators and selected outcomes were collected. Results: In total, 215 workers who expressed an interest in participating in the trial were screened for eligibility, resulting in 96 eligible participants being randomly allocated to the intervention arm (n = 48) and control arm (n = 48). There was a higher retention rate for the face-to-face PFA training session than for the four online group PFA sessions. Participants rated the PFA training as very helpful (86%), with a satisfaction rate of 74.25%, and 47% reported being able to apply their PFA skills in responding to public health emergencies or providing front-line clinical care. Positive outcome changes were observed in PFA knowledge, skills, attitudes, resilience, self-efficacy, compassion satisfaction, and post-traumatic growth. Their scores on depression, anxiety, stress, and burnout measures all declined. Most of these changes were sustained over 3 months (p < .05). Repeated measures analysis of variance found statistically significant interaction effects on depression (F2,232 = 2.874, p = .046, ηp2 = .031) and burnout (F2,211 = 3.729, p = .018, ηp2 = .037), indicating a greater reduction in symptoms of depression and burnout with PFA compared to psychoeducation training. Conclusion: This culturally adapted PFA training intervention was highly acceptable among Chinese HCWs and was feasible in a front-line care setting. Preliminary findings indicated positive changes for the PFA training intervention on knowledge, skills, attitudes, resilience, self-efficacy, compassion satisfaction, and post-traumatic growth, especially a reduction of depression and burnout. Further modifications are recommended and a fully powered evaluation of PFA training is warranted.

RESUMO

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a leading cause of disability globally, affecting over 500 million individuals worldwide. However, accurate and early diagnosis of OA is challenging to achieve. Immune-related genes play an essential role in OA development. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop a diagnostic model for OA based on immune-related genes identified in synovial membrane. Methods: The gene expression profile of OA were downloaded based on four datasets. The significantly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between OA and control groups were selected. The differential immune cells were analyzed, followed by immune-related DEGs screening. WGCNA was used to screen module genes and these genes were further selected through optimization algorithm. Then, nomogram model was constructed. Chemical drug small molecule related to OA was predicted. Finally, expression levels of several key genes were validated by qRT-PCR through construction of OA rat models. Results: The total 656 DEGs were obtained. Eight immune cells were significantly differential between two groups, and 317 immune-related DEGs were obtained. WGCNA identified three modules. The genes in modules were significantly involved in 15 pathways, involving in 65 genes. Then 12 DEGs were screened as the final optimal combination of DEGs, such as CEBPB, CXCL1, JUND, GABARAPL2 and PDGFC. The Nomogram model was also constructed. Furthermore, the chemical small molecules, such as acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine were predicted. The expression levels of CEBPB, CXCL1, GABARAPL2 and PDGFC were validated in OA rat models. Conclusion: A diagnostic model based on twelve immune related genes was constructed. These model genes, such as CEBPB, CXCL1, GABARAPL2, and PDGFC, may serve as diagnostic biomarkers and immunotherapeutic targets.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: While evidence suggests that the attitudes of healthcare providers toward medical decision-making in adolescents diagnosed with depression merit exploration, research on their preferences for Shared Decision-Making (SDM) and the factors affecting these preferences remains limited. OBJECTIVE: To investigate Chinese mental health professionals' (MHPs) preferences for SDM in adolescents with depression and identify the relationships between their preference for SDM and trust and discrimination. METHODS: A cross-sectional design was used in this study. Clinical Decision-making Style-Staff (CDMS-S) was applied to evaluate their preferences for SDM. Physician Trust in the Patient Scale (PTPS) was utilised to assess their trust in consumers. Social Distance Scale to Mental Illness (SDSMI) was utilised to measure their discrimination against people with mental illness. RESULTS: A total of 581 MHPs were identified in China. MHPs rated their preference for participation in decision making (PD) as shared (1.89 ± 0.472), information (IN) as moderate (2.62 ± 0.682), and family involvement (FI) as high (3.13 ± 0.840). The preferences for three decision topics ranked from the highest to the lowest score were working-related decision (2.35 ± 0.681), general preferences in decision (1.82 ± 0.581) and medication-related decision (1.74 ± 0.826). The mean score of PTPS and SDSMI were 34.71 (SD=9.709) and 15.17 (SD=4.299), respectively. Logistic regression indicated that the preference for PD was associated with discrimination; the preference for IN was associated with trust, discrimination and SDM-related training experience; and the preference for FI was associated with both trust and discrimination. CONCLUSIONS: While MHPs generally exhibit a favourable attitude toward SDM, this positivity is not universally observed across all contexts. There remains room for improvement in the willingness to co-develop medication regimens and share health information. Rational recognition of depression, and building trusting and friendly therapeutic relationships are key to promoting MHPs' preferences for SDM. PRACTICAL VALUE: MHPs' preferences for SDM have a significant impact on SDM implementation, which will be promoted by implementing SDM-related training.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the world. However, current diagnostic methods are still limited, and available treatments can only mitigate the symptoms of the disease, not reverse it at the root. The immune function has been identified as playing a role in PD, but the exact mechanism is unknown. This study aimed to search for potential immune-related hub genes in Parkinson's disease, find relevant immune infiltration patterns, and develop a categorical diagnostic model. METHODS: We downloaded the GSE8397 dataset from the GEO database, which contains gene expression microarray data for 15 healthy human SN samples and 24 PD patient SN samples. Screening for PD-related DEGs using WGCNA and differential expression analysis. These PD-related DEGs were analyzed for GO and KEGG enrichment. Subsequently, hub genes (dld, dlk1, iars and ttd19) were screened by LASSO and mSVM-RFE machine learning algorithms. We used the ssGSEA algorithm to calculate and evaluate the differences in nigrostriatal immune cell types in the GSE8397 dataset. The association between dld, dlk1, iars and ttc19 and 28 immune cells was investigated. Using the GSEA and GSVA algorithms, we analyzed the biological functions associated with immune-related hub genes. Establishment of a ceRNA regulatory network for immune-related hub genes. Finally, a logistic regression model was used to develop a PD classification diagnostic model, and the accuracy of the model was verified in three independent data sets. The three independent datasets are GES49036 (containing 8 healthy human nigrostriatal tissue samples and 15 PD patient nigrostriatal tissue samples), GSE20292 (containing 18 healthy human nigrostriatal tissue samples and 11 PD patient nigrostriatal tissue samples) and GSE7621 (containing 9 healthy human nigrostriatal tissue samples and 16 PD patient nigrostriatal tissue samples). RESULTS: Ultimately, we screened for four immune-related Parkinson's disease hub genes. Among them, the AUC values of dlk1, dld and ttc19 in GSE8397 and three other independent external datasets were all greater than 0.7, indicating that these three genes have a certain level of accuracy. The iars gene had an AUC value greater than 0.7 in GES8397 and one independent external data while the AUC values in the other two independent external data sets ranged between 0.5 and 0.7. These results suggest that iars also has some research value. We successfully constructed a categorical diagnostic model based on these four immune-related Parkinson's disease hub genes, and the AUC values of the joint diagnostic model were greater than 0.9 in both GSE8397 and three independent external datasets. These results indicate that the categorical diagnostic model has a good ability to distinguish between healthy individuals and Parkinson's disease patients. In addition, ceRNA networks reveal complex regulatory relationships based on immune-related hub genes. CONCLUSION: In this study, four immune-related PD hub genes (dld, dlk1, iars and ttd19) were obtained. A reliable diagnostic model for PD classification was developed. This study provides algorithmic-level support to explore the immune-related mechanisms of PD and the prediction of immune-related drug targets.

RESUMO

Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the world. We downloaded data on Parkinson's disease and Ferroptosis-related genes from the GEO and FerrDb databases. We used WCGAN and Random Forest algorithm to screen out five Parkinson's disease ferroptosis-related hub genes. Two genes were identified for the first time as possibly playing a role in Braak staging progression. Unsupervised clustering analysis based on hub genes yielded ferroptosis isoforms, and immune infiltration analysis indicated that these isoforms are associated with immune cells and may represent different immune patterns. FRHGs scores were obtained to quantify the level of ferroptosis modifications in each individual. In addition, differences in interleukin expression were found between the two ferroptosis subtypes. The biological functions involved in the hub gene are analyzed. The ceRNA regulatory network of hub genes was mapped. The disease classification diagnosis model and risk prediction model were also constructed by applying hub genes based on logistic regression. Multiple external datasets validated the hub gene and classification diagnostic model with some accuracy. This study explored hub genes associated with ferroptosis in Parkinson's disease and their molecular patterns and immune signatures to provide new ideas for finding new targets for intervention and predictive biomarkers.

RESUMO

Programmed cell death (PCD) refers to controlled cell death that is conducted to keep the internal environment stable. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) participate in the progression of PCD in a variety of diseases. However, no specialized online repository is available to collect and store the associations between lncRNA-mediated PCD and diseases. Here, we developed LncPCD, a comprehensive database that provides information on experimentally supported associations of lncRNA-mediated PCD with diseases. The current version of LncPCD documents 6666 associations between five common types of PCD (apoptosis, autophagy, ferroptosis, necroptosis and pyroptosis) and 1222 lncRNAs in 331 diseases. We also manually curated a wealth of information: (1) 7 important lncRNA regulatory mechanisms, (2) 310 PCD-associated cell types in three species, (3) detailed information on lncRNA subcellular locations and (4) clinical applications for lncRNA-mediated PCD in diseases. Additionally, 10 single-cell sequencing datasets were integrated into LncPCD to characterize the dynamics of lncRNAs in diseases. Overall, LncPCD is an extremely useful resource for understanding the functions and mechanisms of lncRNA-mediated PCD in diseases. Database URL:  http://spare4.hospital.studio:9000/lncPCD/Home.jsp.

RESUMO

WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN?: SDM improves clinical outcomes by increasing attendance and treatment adherence in adolescents diagnosed with depression. SDM could reduce treatment disagreements and enhance consumers' and their families' satisfaction with mental healthcare services. Healthcare professionals are a critical part of SDM. However, MHPs' practices of SDM in the daily management of adolescents diagnosed with depression need to be clarified. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: From the viewpoints of MHPs, SDM was not extensively applied in the daily management of adolescents diagnosed with depression. MHPs who trust their consumers and have received training related to SDM are more likely to practice SDM in the daily management of adolescents diagnosed with depression. The positive preferences for providing information and family involvement in treatment decision-making are facilitators; working in closed inpatient mental health wards and open inpatient mental health wards are hindering factors for MHPs' practices of SDM. WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE?: MHPs should encourage information sharing with consumers and their family members to help them participate in treatment decision-making actively. A trusting and friendly therapeutic relationship with consumers should be maintained in the daily management of adolescents diagnosed with depression. SDM-related training should be encouraged for MHPs to promote widespread SDM. ABSTRACT: INTRODUCTION: Shared decision-making (SDM) is an ideal model for a therapeutic relationship that can improve health outcomes. Healthcare professionals are a critical part of SDM, and they play an important role in the practices of SDM in the clinical setting. Evidence suggests that adolescents diagnosed with depression can benefit substantially from SDM. However, mental health professionals' (MHPs) practices of SDM for adolescents diagnosed with depression in China are not well-documented. AIM: This study aimed to investigate the practices of SDM for adolescents diagnosed with depression from the viewpoints of MHPs in China. METHOD: In this cross-sectional study, we recruited a total of 581 MHPs by convenience sampling. The Shared Decision-Making Questionnaire-Physician Version (SDM-Q-Doc) was used to evaluate the MHPs' practices of SDM for adolescents diagnosed with depression. RESULTS: The mean SDM-Q-Doc was 80.47 (±16.31). Within the six specific decision-making situations, most MHPs selected non-SDM (52.7%-71.6%). Substantial numbers of respondents believed that MHPs made the final decision, especially with regard to the development (37%) and adjustment of medication regimens (42%). The practice of SDM was predicted by MHPs' preference for providing information, their trust in consumers, preference for family involvement in treatment decision-making, working in an outpatient clinic and receiving SDM training (F = 23.582; p = .000; R2 = .198; adjusted R2 = .189). DISCUSSION: Although the MHPs' self-rated score of SDM-Q-Doc was high, SDM was not extensively applied in the daily management of adolescents diagnosed with depression. Thus, SDM needs to be further promoted by enhancing SDM-related training for MHPs, thereby actively promoting the involvement of families, facilitating the information sharing for consumers and families, and building an active, trusting consumer-practitioner relationship. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: MHPs should prioritise information sharing with consumers and families, as well as build trusting and friendly therapeutic relationships. Family involvement in treatment decisions should be encouraged when adolescents diagnosed with depression are in need. Actively participating in training related to SDM is also important. Future high-quality evidence is still needed to explore the facilitators and barriers to SDM practices from a tripartite perspective of MHPs, adolescents diagnosed with depression and their families.

RESUMO

Background: Plenty of efforts have been made to reduce the use of low-value care (the care that is not expected to provide net benefits for patients) across the world, but measures of low-value care have not been developed in China. This study aims to develop hospital discharge records-based measures of low-value surgical procedures, evaluate their annual use and associated expenditure, and analyze the practice patterns by characterizing its temporal trends and correlations across rates of different low-value procedures within hospitals. Methods: Informed by evidence-based lists including Choosing Wisely, we developed 11 measures of low-value surgical procedures. We evaluated the count and proportion of low-value episodes, as well as the proportion of expenditure and medical insurance payouts for these episodes, using hospital discharge records in Sichuan Province, China during a period of 2016-2022. We compared the count and expenditure detected by different versions of these measures, which varied in sensitivity and specificity. We characterized the temporal trends in the rate of low-value surgical procedures and estimated the annual percent change using joint-point regression. Additionally, we calculated the Spearman correlation coefficients between the risk-standardized rates of low-value procedures which were estimated by multilevel models adjusting for case mix across hospitals. Findings: Low-value episodes detected by more specific versions of measures accounted for 3.25% (range, 0.11%-71.66%), and constituted 6.03% (range, 0.32%-84.63%) and 5.90% (range, 0.33%-82.86%) of overall expenditure and medical insurance payouts, respectively. The three figures accounted for 5.90%, 8.41%, and 8.38% in terms of more sensitive versions of measures. Almost half of the low-value procedures (five out of eleven) experienced an increase in rates during the period of 2016-2022, with four of them increasing over 20% per year. There was no significant correlation across risk-standardized rates of different low-value procedures within hospitals (mean r for pairwise, 0.03; CI, -0.02, 0.07). Interpretation: Despite overall low-value practices detected by the 11 developed measures was modest, certain clinical specialties were plagued by widespread low-value practices which imposed heavy economic burdens for the healthcare system. Given the pervasive and significant upward trends in rates of low-value practices, it has become increasingly urgent to reduce such practices. Interventions in reducing low-value practices in China would be procedure-specific as practice patterns of low-value care varied by procedures and common drivers of low-value practices may not exist. RESUMO

Optical Fourier surface is a unique patterned optical surface containing the precise sum of sinusoidal waves, each with a well-defined spatial frequency and amplitude. It can manipulate the desired diffracted light field through its Fourier transform, which brings a straightforward mathematical method for designing complex diffractive optics. However, the fabrication techniques typically have the drawbacks of low efficiency, limiting the large-scale industrial application of optical Fourier surfaces. This study presents a powerful approach, the multi-frequency vibration cutting (MFVC), to enable the high-efficiency fabrication of optical Fourier surfaces. A specific optical Fourier surface consisting of arbitrary frequency components of linear gratings has been fabricated on metallic surfaces using MFVC. Due to the capacity of multicomponent gratings in coupling red, green, and blue lights at the same incident angle, the RGB true color has been prepared. The additive and subtractive principles of mixing the three primary colors are demonstrated. The former relies on the light dispersion induced by grating diffraction, while the latter is based on the light absorption induced by the subwavelength grating-coupled surface plasma polarization (SPP). The experimental results of authentic structural true color on the aluminum surface verify the efficacy of MFVC in the fabrication of optical Fourier surfaces.
